Next week, members of the Senate Appropriations Committee will decide whether to advance AB 828, the bill to lift the lifetime ban on receiving CalFresh assistance for people with a prior non-violent drug conviction, and who verify their participation in recovery or treatment programs.
Thirty-seven other states and the District of Columbia have already taken this important step to fight hunger by removing the lifetime ban.

I feel that it is very inhumane for the federal government to ball all ex-drug offenders from receiving foodstamps for a lifetime. Many people have had a drug history, got rehabilitated and come back into society to become productive citizens. Most of them may need assistance from the county and try to get foodstamps and get turned down due to their past. I say it is not fair, give them a chance and do not judge them on their past.
ReplyDeleteI feel as though the government is not allowing people like myself to totally change. If people like myself (x-felons) are not allowed assistance then what other ways am I able to support myself & my child ? Even if we were allowed a small window of time to get help, you would be amazed at what change would be able to be accomplished.
