Democrats and Gun Control

Representative Mike Pence (R-IN) says, “I maintain that firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens makes communities safer, not less safe.” Yeah, right, Rep. Pence. Have you tried telling that to your Democratic colleague Gabrielle Giffords?

And, after the carnage in Arizona, Rep. Peter King (R-NY), said, “…I will be introducing legislation that would make it illegal to knowingly carry a gun within a 1,000 feet of certain high-profile government officials.” Not surprisingly, gun advocate, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), has shot down King’s bill. Boehner’s message? Absolutely no gun controls.

Would this please Rep. Giffords?

In 2009, Giffords signed H.R.197 which established “a national standard for the carrying of concealed firearms…Authorizes a person who has a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm in one state and who is not prohibited from carrying a firearm under federal law to carry a concealed firearm in another state.” (National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act 09-HR197 on Jan 6, 2009.)

Though Rep. Giffords is known as a “moderate Democrat,” her support for concealment of firearms is the meat of ultra-conservatives.

But, you’ve got to give Reps. Pence and King a pat on the back. They are proud fighters and outspoken defenders of the use of guns. No ifs, and or buts.

With the exception of Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), only a few other Democrats are asking, very politely, for new gun control legislation. Rep. John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich) is trying to reign in the sale and use of high-capacity magazines. But, is Conyers’ initiative just window dressing? Other possible controls include accelerating the data entry for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System and the inclusion of drug-related arrest records in the System.

Once proud Democrats have turned from fighters into enablers.

Since the Democrats aren’t fighting for gun controls, I suggest they become head cheerleaders for gun proliferation. Outflank the Republicans and make the case that America needs more than the 350,000,000 guns the FBI estimates is currently available.

Dems, introduce “Ultimate Social Security.” A mandated cradle to grave concept where every newborn will be issued a personal gun at the moment of birth! Gun and child growing together. Gunnies? Huggies with holsters. Kindergartens populated with 5 year-olds – all packing. Teenagers sporting the newest in fashionable weaponry. Celebrities with Red Carpet designer guns.


Get rid of Obamacare and mandate Medigun. If you get too sick or old to shoot and aim a weapon, then you are issued one “final bullet.” Republicans would rally to this type of assisted suicide, since cutting the national debt is their priority.

And States’ Rights? Each state will have the exclusive right to sell it’s own States’ Rights gun. Anyone crossing into a state would have to buy a gun issued by that state. Outfit your whole family, right at the border. Continual Christmas for the firearms and munitions industry.


Erich Pratt, director of communications for Gun Owners of America, said, “These politicians need to remember that these (gun) rights aren’t given to us by them. They come from God. They are God-given rights. They can’t be infringed or limited in any way. What are they going to do: limit it two or three rounds. Having lots of ammunition is critical, especially if the police are not around and you need to be able to defend yourself against mobs.”

When the Mexican drug lords were shooting each other with American guns, I said nothing. They deserved it. Politicians did nothing.

When drive-by shootings occurred between street gangs, I said nothing. Just one less gang member to deal with. Politicians did nothing.

When violence in urban ghettos escalated with firearms, I said nothing. I didn’t live in that neighborhood. Politicians did nothing.
